The Hotel That Leaves You Suspended With Disbelief!

January 15, 2012

I once read somewhere that it is during the month of January that most summer holidays are planned and booked, no doubt this has something to do with the festive period hangover that leads to the great January depression and booking a holiday is one of those things you do to give yourself something to look forward to, something to work for and something to cheer you up. I am not immune to this feeling either but the thought of a nice holiday away got me onto the path of looking at some of the coolest and more different hotel design concepts out there. It was whilst doing this that I came across one of my favorite hotel designs of all time.

The project is called the Treehotel and is based in Sweden. We heard about this project back in 2010 when designboom covered it whilst being built onsite, now 18 months later a more finished project has been unveiled on Yatzer. Owned by Britta and Kent Lindvall the Treehotel has become a huge tourist attraction in the tiny village of Harads, the stunning design was created by a mixture of Architects from different practices in the Scandinavian region. The “Mirrorcube” was designed by Tham & Videgård Architects, “The Cabin” was created by Cyrén & Cyrén. Bertil Harström of Inredningsgruppen designed the aptly named “UFO” room and the “Birds Nest”, finally “The Blue Cone” was designed by SandellSandberg. This project could be described as a who’s who of Scandinavian Architecture.

No matter who the designers where or how many were involved the quality of the work produced is truly spectacular, each room is suspended of the floor and hidden amongst the tress as if it is almost floating in mid air. The rooms offer some of the most stunning views of the local landscape, they all retain an elegant, simple and modest interior design that fits perfectly with the surroundings. It is hard to pick out which one is our favorite as we love them all for different reasons, but there is no denying that the Mirrorcube is the one that really made our jaws hit the floor. Have a look at the images below and let us know which one is your favorite.
