A Vision Of What Train Interiors Could Be Like!

October 21, 2012

Today’s has been a busy day of travelling from one end of Dubai to the other and as I am still a stickler for trying to reduce my carbon footprint as much as possible I spent most of it on the Dubai Metro. Whist sitting on my seat (yes, I actually managed to get a seat) I couldn’t help but think how the interior design is rather uninspiring, but I guess that is par for the course with train design as it needs to be functional as opposed to aesthetically pleasing, even though I do wonder why it can’t be both.

When I got back to the office about an hour ago I decided to look for some design inspiration for trains and I came across this awesome concept from Christopher Jenner. The project images below are Jenner’s vision for the future when it comes to train carriage interior design for the Eurostar that moves between Paris and London.

As explained by Jenner below:

Traveling the line between the Capital of cool and the capital of fashion, we wonder how this train is such a soulless design experience.

This commission is a vision of a future we can all enjoy. With transport set to play an ever more pivotal role in the way we seek to improve our relationship with the planet, surely it should be tasty too?

The carriage finished in hardwood, brushed Brass and Carbon fibre illustrates a hybrid of the golden age and the new. Individual accommodation in single seats provides essential armrest services ( air, power, connection ) and retractable privacy, while large screen windows open a view to the World flying by.

As you can see from the images below and the description above, this vision of the future is so much cooler that the present offerings and I hope that this vision can become a reality as there really is no excuse for train interiors to be do boring and bland.
