No Screw, No Glue Just Great Ingenuity!

December 20, 2011

It has been an interesting week at Studio EM headquarters, most of the week has been spent dishing out new proposals for new projects but the current theme of each of these proposals has been cost and how to reduce it. Perhaps purse strings are tightening as it is coming to the end of the year or perhaps this is simply a sign of the times. Whatever the reason it does no harm for us to continually look at ways how we can value engineer projects whilst still retaining a high level of quality and integrity to our finishes.

During our research we came across an awesome office design project created by designer Joost van Bleiswijk, Joost has created and office for Amsterdam based advertising agency Nothing made mostly out of cardboard, implementing his now famous “no screw no glue” technique Joost has created all of the main office components out of cardboard. The stairs are even made out of cardboard, the desks, feature wall, the beams and architectural structure as well as the library and shelves all follow suit.

This is a wicked concept that got us all talking and oohing in the office when it was discovered, and the thing we love the most, it is sustainable and eco-friendly, it took 500 hundred cardboard boxes to achieve this effect, that’s 500 boxers that have been recycled and put to good use. An ingenious project that shows great innovation by the designer, check out the images below and let us know what you think.
