Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recreate!

October 31, 2011

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, that is the theme of today and to reflect that we have selected a project that encompasses this mantra perfectly. Think about having to create a space using only salvaged materials from a bygone era, that is a pretty tough brief by any standards and even more so when you think of it as having to be a hospitality project.

But in spectacular form that is what Architect Corvin Cristian has done with his latest project in Bucharest. Atelier Mechanic is an old fashioned bar with a much classier old fashioned interior than you would expect. This project is absolutely one of our favourites for a variety of reasons, the main being that the eclectic mix of the furniture, fittings and finishings have no right whatsoever to blend or to work together yet they do and superbly so. Bucharest like many other Eastern European design hubs has been making a name for itself with its trendy and swish nightspots, what Atelier Mechanic does is that it gives patrons a choice of something completely different, something a lot more relaxing and appealing to the modern man / woman in an effortless kind of way.

The design is exactly that, effortless, relaxed and almost horizontal as it is that laidback but in this approach and design something of genius has been created. I could harp on here about the 101 design features that I love and that rock our design socks off but this really is a project where the pictures do all the talking for us, you have to see it to believe and to appreciate it.
