Rustic Sicilian Boutique Charm!

August 26, 2012

One of the best things about the summer is the summer holidays that we all look forward to so much. I like most designers just love to travel, it is a great way to pick up some inspiration and to learn about new techniques and styles employed by other designers all around the world. One of my favorite things to do is to book into little independent boutique hotels as these often give you a real taste of the country you are in, they have a charm unlike the larger chains and a style that matches that charm.

Take today’s feature project as an example. The stunning Monaci delle Terre Nere is a boutique hotel located in Sicily, Italy and from the images below you can see how this hotel really lives up to the ideal of being boutique. Every crevice of the space holds its own unique piece of charm, warmth and personality. Although to some the paired back concrete walls and rustic treatments coupled with the exposed beams and raw finishes would automatically make them feel cold, I am of the opposite opinion, for me it conveys warmth and comfort, especially if a lovely fire burns throughout the night. This hotel is simply stunning, the finishes are so clean and classical and the charm is further enhanced by the architectural form of the interior, such as the tiny door frames, the dipping low ceiling and some of the more organic walls. I wouldn’t say that the hotel is a poster boy for cutting edge modern design but that is why I like it, it’s different and that is what I want when I am travelling, authentic, different and charming.
