Trend Forecast 2013 – Get Ready For Retro Chic!
This week I was asked by a local publication to give my thoughts on the upcoming trends for the interior design industry in 2013. I have never been a fan of trend forecasting for the simple reason that there are much more qualified and experienced people out there who know a lot more than me about trends, but what I did do is give my opinion as to what I see the big trends of 2013 being, based on the clients and projects I am working with at the moment. It’s fair to say that 2012 was the year of the Industrial Rustic movement but for me 2013 is going to be all about retro chic and vintage.
Today I thought it best to share a retro chic project to give better perspective as to what I see retro chic as being. My view is that retro chic is about taking funky colorful elements and design features from the late 60’s and 70’s, that whole Mad Men era and sophisticating it up a bit with chic touches from a more modern era, much like mixing vintage with chic but instead of vintage look at more of a retro feel inspired by the likes of Andy Warhol and artists of similar ilk. A project that I feel captures this trend is the 25hours Hotel in Zurich that was designed by Alfredo Häberli, as you can see from the images below the sense of retro can be felt throughout the project but the hints of chic transport this project from being a dated caricature of project into being a trailblazing trend setter, let’s hope that I am right and 2013 brings more awesome projects like this one.
